Euro 2008 Kick-Off : Switzerland vs. Czech Republic

Saturday 7 June 2008, 6pm:

We were on the train to Zurich for the first match kick-off between Switzerland and the Czech Republic. I’m not a football person, but seeing that J is sooo into it, I wanted to try to soak it all in as well. We didn’t want to watch the 1st match at home on a tv screen, so we took a train to Zurich, where they were screening the match LIVE. The match was played at Basel, about 2hrs from where we are, whereas Zurich is only 50mins away. So we got there and you could tell, there was an excitement in the air.

This was what greeted us at the Zurich station…

A team of gigantic footballers and famous ones at that. Of course, I didn’t know any of them but they were quite cool. I think I was just about as tall as the height of a football boot. πŸ™‚

And as we walked out of the station…

As we got further up along the Fan Mile, more and more people were gathered…

And this was where we stopped to watch the match…

Half time…

And I spent the 2nd half of the match queueing up for my raclette…

In the end, the Swiss lost 0-1 but we were glad to go out and show our support and to enjoy the party. πŸ™‚ And the party didn’t stop there, we were offered drinks on the train too.. by a young, Swiss couple… πŸ™‚

Did you get to watch the match?? I thought the Swiss SHOULD have won!! :p
